Eco Driving

This is the documentation related to the HubLogiQ Eco Driving reports.

By default, reports are generated on a quarterly basis and, for each driver, they contain the total number of penalty points accrued in the quarter and their rank. The driver's rank is a number between 1 and 10, where 10 is better.

Penalties

Penalty points are accrued each time a driver violates a eco/safe driving rule. There are five main violation categories:

• Acceleration.
• Braking.
• Cornering.
• Speeding.
• Idling.

Furthermore, the following rules apply:

• If a driver uses multiple vehicles during the period, all the accrued penalty points are summed across them.
• The accrued penalty points are divided by the driven mileage, meaning that 3 speeding events over 10 km have a significantly larger impact on the rank compared to 3 speeding events over 1000 km.

Acceleration

There are two possible types of acceleration-related penalties:

• Acceleratie hard: incurred when the g-force during acceleration is between 0.16 and 0.25. In practice, if you feel yourself being pushed back into the seat you've probably violated this rule. This violation accrues 100 points.
• Acceleratie extreem: incurred when the g-force during acceleration is above 0.25. In practice, this penalty is incurred when the gas pedal is being floored. This violation accrues 500 points.

Braking

• Rem gemiddeld: incurred when the g-force during braking is between 0.16 and 0.25. In practice, if you feel pulled forward while braking you've probably violated this rule. This violation accrues 200 points.
• Rem extreem: incurred when the g-force during braking is above 0.25. In practice, this penalty is incurred when you've slammed the brakes. This violation accrues 1000 points.

Cornering

• Draai gemiddeld: incurred when the g-force during turning is between 0.16 and 0.25. In practice, if you feel pushed sideways while turning you've probably violated this rule. This violation accrues 100 points.
• Draai extreem: incurred when the g-force during turning is above 0.25. This can cause the vehicle to lose control. This violation accrues 500 points.

Speeding

Speeding violations are registered when the driver's speed is above the maximum speed limit for the current road segment for more than 10 seconds. The possible violations are

• Versnelling laag: 1 km/h over the speed limit. Accrues a 50 points penalty.
• Versnelling gemiddelde: 21 km/h over the speed limit. Accrues a 500 points penalty.
• Versnelling extreem: 31 km/h over the speed limit. Accrues a 1000 points penalty.

Idling

The idling or stationair violation is accrued when the vehicle is parked (i.e., the speed is 0) and the ignition is on for more than 10 seconds. Each violation accrues 10 points.

In addition to idling-related penalties, the report also contains the Idle % metric. This metric is computed as the percentage of engine hours in which the unit was parked with the ignition on.

Rank

The driver rank is computed using the formula below, where $x$ is the number of penalty points, and $y$ is the driver's rank.

$$y = \frac{9}{x / 133.3 + 1} + 1$$

This yields a curve with an initial sharp decline that eventually flattens as more penalty points are accrued. The rank will always be a number between 1 and 10.
